Memorial Nursing Scholarship
Eligibility Guidelines
Patricia I. McCombs McBeth was a registered
nurse at Ottumwa Hospital for many years, serving as head nurse for
the Pediatric Unit for several of those years. Mrs. McBeth passed
away in 1999 and her family developed this scholarship in her honor,
hoping to promote the nursing profession and the traditions carried
forth by nurses. A scholarship of $500 is awarded each May to an
associate of Ottumwa Regional Health Center or a family member of
an associate.
Applicant Eligibility:
• Applicant must be an associate of Ottumwa Regional Health Center
for at least six months
(or family member of an associate)
• Applicant must be a student in good standing and currently enrolled
in nursing classes at
a nursing program in Iowa, working towards RN licensure (cannot be
an RN returning
for bachelor’s degree)
• Applicant must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
Application Process:
Applicant must submit the following items to the Foundation office
by March 31st of each year:
1. Completed Patricia I.
McBeth Memorial Nursing Scholarship Application form.
2. Copy of latest school transcripts
3. List of current community activities/organizations in which the
applicant is involved
4. 250 word essay entitled, “How Nursing Affects
a Community”
Selection Process:
Staff at the Foundation office will review submitted materials for
eligibility and completeness and forward to the McBeth family. The
family will review the submitted applications and select a recipient
for award. The recipient will be notified and should plan on attending
the Ottumwa Regional Health Center’s nursing banquet held each
May. The McBeth family will personally present the scholarship award
during the banquet.
